“Wonderful, highly recommended!”

I participated in two Alternative Berlin tours, the tips based daytime tour and the Twilight Tour. Both were totally awesome. Here are reviews of both:

Twilight Tour:
Our tour guide was Isa, and she was great. She was friendly and really knew her stuff. I totally suggest this tour to anyone who is up for adventure. We looked at street art, met some artists, did some urban exploring and ended at a computer hacker bar. You never know what you’ll run into on this tour, our group had some very interesting unplanned experiences.

Day time tour:
Because I enjoyed the Twighlight tour so much, I wanted to check out a daytime tour. It was fantastic as well, and a different experience. Our guide was Vi and she had great energy. She was also very knowledgeable and had great energy. This tour focused more on street art than the other one, which makes sense because it took place fully during the day.

If you have the time and are interested in the Berlin art scene, I 100% suggest that you participate in more than one of these tours. It is a very efficient way to see a lot of the famous street art in the city, plus you get good commentary on the way. They were the highlights of my time in Berlin!

One tip, if at all possible get a transport pass before these tours. You will take at least one train to get to places.

“Definitely an interesting side of Berlin”

I did the Alternative Walking Tour today, and it was great. I’ve been to Berlin before and have done mostly WW2 and Berlin Wall history- and re-do them every time I visit, as they are fascinating. That said, I wanted to see something I hadn’t seen before, and this tour really delivered.

Our tour guide, Bart, was very knowledgeable about the alternative cultures in Berlin and the art that comes from them. He was full of great stories and his perspective felt genuine. He loves this side of his city, and it shows. It was authentic.

I would practically force anyone I know who is going to visit Berlin to carved out half a day for this tour. And it is tip-based to boot, so you can pay what you feel it is worth.

“The alternative tour on street art in Berlin”

We did not only want to visit the main tourist attractions, but also something different. When we saw the alternative tour published in the hotel entrance we decided to participate. And we absolutely loved it! Our guide Sebastian did not only explain and show us the various street arts in different parts of berlin (we went around on foot and by s-bahn), but also gave substantial background information on the city and told us some special stories. He is a very pleasant, open and funny guy, who explains very clear. He also brought us to an interesting African/Caraibean bar at the riverside for a drink. It took about 4 hours (a bit longer than foreseen).

“inspirational!”

Berlin is a perfect city to host an alternative tour. The roughness, the history, the edgy beauty of the city makes it a true inspiration for me. Our guide, Bart (a Dutchman) had a pleasant way of speaking, telling us all sorts of interesting stories about the street art/graffiti and other interesting, alternative, interesting things you’d like to know. We started around 1 and didn’t finish until after 6! It was a true inspiration, and i would also say that i’d take the tour again! I can most definitely recommend the tour, as well as our guide!

“Alternative pub crawl”

Went on the alternative pub crawl with Danni last week and was absolute fantastic! We went to a ping-pong bar, the Goth bar where marilyn manson hangs out (sadly not there last week) – a local bar where I met quite a few Germans and a very different club. You would never find these places on your own – the guide was very straightforward about the local scene. Much much more than just a tourist pubcrawl – some of the part even went to an Absinthe bar!!
Can’t wait to go back – met some amazing people on the tour and in the bars
Highly recommended if you want to meet people and find the real Berlin

After an awesome night at the Alternative Pub crawl we decided to do the Alternative Tour and glad with our decision.
As described the tour was ‘Alternate’ our Tour guide Bart gave us a lot of information on Artists and The Wall and History + More.. He was very friendly and looked as though he enjoyed his Job as a Tour guide.!
My Partner Chris and I would Highly recommend Alternative Tours and if you can get Bart as your guide do your best as he was tops.!!!

Thanks again for an awesome Tour,

Cheers, Chris and Renee – AUSTRALIAN =o)

“666 Pub Crawl a must”

The anti pub crawl was amazing! The best I’ve gone to; you don’t even really need to get drunk or even tipsy to enjoy it, it’s that good. The pubs were so cool and intense, I’ve never known anything so fun than to arrive in the last bar, explore through tunnels and find a cinema with Monty Pythons Meaning Of Life playing!

I took the alternative Berlin street art tour with Trish as a guide this Spring and had an amazing time. The tour was extremely educating and Trish was a great guide with an enthusiastic energy and a lot of knowledge!

If you want to experience the true underground character of Berlin and learn more about its street art, history and hidden neighbourhoods, then this is a great tour to do. The tour may be free but at the end, you may tip the guide if you like. We were lucky to have Matti who was an excellent tour guide whose knowledge is definitely worth paying for. You get an inside look at Berlin life from people who are passionate about the city and have lots of stories to share. I recommend taking the tour on a Sunday when all the stores are closed – we then visited the flea market at Mauer Park afterwards.

I went on the walking tour and the street art workshop and I would definitly reccomend it for anyone interested in art, design or even just an alternate side of Berlin. You could tell the tour guides are really passionate and have some amazing and random information about berlin. I think if you havnt done this tour you have probably missed out on something really amazing in Berlin.

Great tour with Bart. Recommended for anyone interested in the real Berlin of the peope and of street art. Bart was really knowledgable and provided a lot of background information on Kreuzberg and other “Kiez” districts. He was able to answer all of our questions and provided an unparalleled experince of the city and its people.

Our tour guide Ryan was very welcoming, informative and chatty, the places he showed us were definatly the most interesting in Berlin. Really enjoyed the littles stories he had to tell to go with each place we visited. Only wish we had gone on the tour earlier on during our stay as we would of then been clues up on the best places to frequent earlier!

It was a very special trip. We (10 Dutch Groninger collegefriends 1981-1987) met squatters, artists, hackers, musicians. Our guide Isa showed us the best underground places of Berlin and introduced us in a very strange but moving, stirring, rousing and inspiring world. Thanks to Isa

I joined both the free tour and the street art workshop, and (after a conversation with the guide to assess the degree of overlap, highly recommend them both).
Georg was a fantastic guide, and his knowledge of – and passion for – the street art scene in Berlin was fantastic. I learned a lot about local work and international artists, and saw places I would not have known to look for otherwise. Georg put a lot of effort into ensuring we made full use of every minute of the tour and the workshop.

If you only have a few days in Berlin and want to see for yourself what everyone is talking about I highly recommend this tour. We had the pleasure of being guided around by Bart who not only really knew his stuff about the peoples Berlin and street Art but was just the kind of bloke you’d sit down and have a drink with. The tour was relaxed and informative and we walked away with a rounded view of the real berlin and Barts love for the city really rubbed off on us. Cheers mate!

We spent a great afternoon exploring Berlin with Trish, our super enthusiastic and fun tour guide who has a passion for street art, for Berlin and for life itself! We learnt a lot about Berlin and it’s residents through stories old and new and were taken to several cool spots off the tourist track and shown some examples of prominent Berlin street art along the way.
Thank you Trish, you are really great at what you do!!

The alternative pub crawl was easily one of the most enjoyable nights of my holiday! Some of the places we visited were truly unique and our guide laura was incredibly friendly and informative about the places we were going and what to expect.. Value for money was high as well, all of us ended the night extremely happy and more than a little drunk after all the free shots on offer…All in all, a thoroughly recommended experience through the nightlife of one of the most interesting cities I’ve ever visited!

This was the first tour we did in Berlin and we didn’t regret this one bit. It offered a refreshing insight into the city of berlin, the graffiti, the artwork, the background of the artists, and we travelled around some parts of the old East Berlin to look at the artworks. Most of these places, we would not have thought of visiting (or even know about to visit), including the little alley way filled with graffiti somewhere in Mitte. We finished up at Tacheles building which was an eye opener – all the artwork, the artists and painters who insisted on staying behind even though they were being evacuated. The tour guide stressed that the building may not be there any longer once the authorities manage to evacuate everyone.

We went on the Twilight Tour last week and it will be one of the most memorable experiences I will ever have. It was both mine and my partners first time in Berlin and this tour was our first real look at Berlin. We were taken by Isa (our tour guide) to so many amazing places within just those 5 hours of the tour. Everything we saw we loved. We came away so taken with the city and think we’ll still be talking about what we saw for weeks/months to come. I won’t give too much away as the element of surprises that Isa had in store added to the evening’s experience all the more. I don’t want to spoil anything for you! What I will say though is you must must MUST do this trip. Even if you’re not the “alternative type” you have to see these parts of Berlin as it will make you fall in love with the city all the more. We are without a doubt returning (hopefully later this year) and will be booking another tour for sure. Enjoy!!!

Today I took the Real Berlin Experience tour (from Alternative Berlin) and I couldn’t be more pleased: it’s a whole different, interesting way to get to know the city.
Trish was the nicest coolest guide, and did such a great job that I forgot how cold it was.
So far, it’s the best tour I took in Berlin. 100% recommended to everyone, regardless their age or personal interests.

I visited Berlin on my own, having never been before and Matt led a brilliant tour that fully opened my eyes to Berlin. I wouldn’t have seen Berlin properly without this tour. Matt was happy for all questions and provided a relevance to many subtle aspects of the city (other tours don’t really give you this). I also got a city orientation (using the metro to get to further sights) and saw more sights than I’d have found on my own. Lifting Matt’s knowledge for my own wanderings in Berlin was a given. The tour is free but tip-based and the despite how obvious you feel street art is, this is a first hand introduction to the real Berlin. I’d definately do the tour again on another visit!!

Stopping into Berlin while travelling Europe we had only heard that it was a cool city and a bit underground. We signed up for the alternative tour at twighlight, and safe to say that the experience turned out to be the highlight of the whole summer. The tour takes you to you places you wouldnt have thought existed and if you’re into anything alternate, this is for you. Especially have an affliciton for graff. Its completely authentic and in total respect for what the art and locals underground Berlin stands for. Just the best.
