Alternative Berlins Top Five For June
Summer is in full swing in Berlin and once again there is no shortage of fun and interesting things to do. Here’s our pick of events for June!
1. Bongripper – Cassiopeia –June 2nd
Hailing from Chicago, Bongripper play instrumental doom and they do it damn well. Nodding in slow unison in a sweaty venue is just as hypnotic as dancing to techno and Berlin is as great for live bands as it is for electronic music. These dudes self-release their music, and they’ve never hired a manager or a publicist, and we love that DIY approach.

2. Dark Market – Dunckerclub – June 5th
The sun might be out, but the goths are staying pale, doing their shopping at this quirky little market down in the depths of Dunckerclub. You can browse for art, jewellery, books and other Tim Burton-esque items whilst DJ’s play. It’s free entry and you might just find that perfect human skull you’ve been searching for.

3. BLVCK TEENS – Book Release – Urban Spree – June 9th
“The Underbelly of Everything” is a project that spanned over 10 years. BLVCK TEENS finds inspiration in the discarded images of life. Trashy, nasty, off putting, and lacking taste, these are just some words to describe this book. Copies of the books will be released on the night and there will also be a few prints to view. There’s also a raging after party planned, in the basement of Urban Spree.

4. MVMNT 13 #2 – Urban Spree – June 17th
MVMNT 13 is a Berlin based collective of awesome people who have already run one seriously successful fundraising event at the end of last year. The idea is simple, live bands, DJ’s, delicious food and all the proceeds are donated to charities that are supporting refugees.
“We do not want to look away anymore and we do not like to remain silent, while people fall victim to racist force and political ignorance. We want to do our bit, that these people get their chance for a new beginning, to be a newcomer. With MVMNT13#2 we would like to call for your solidarity and collect donations to support refugee initiatives”
Say it loud and say it clear, refugees are welcome here! So is positive action that brings communities together. Hats off to the whole MVMNT team.

5. Game Of Thrones Theme Party – CASTLE BLACK – Schleusenufer 3 – June 25th.
This party is one night before the season finale of Season Six of stupidly popular TV phenomenon Game Of Thrones. Who wouldn’t want to party to deep house, techno, future house and party classics whilst dressed up as their favourite character from Thrones? Wield your Valyrian Steel, run around yelling “YOU KNOW NOTHING JON SNOW”, just hope it doesn’t go all red wedding. SUMMER IS COMING.
