Top Five alternative X-mas markets in Berlin 2022

Germany is famous for it´s Christmas market tradition and you will find one of them on almost every corner in Berlin. There are of course the big famous markets found in the usual guide books but there are also a few alternative markets off the beaten path which are well worth a visit, here are our Top5 for 2022:

CHRISTMAS AVENUE

The LGBTQIA Christmas Market on Nollendorfplatz is definitely the most colourful and flashy market located underneath the historical U2 line. You will find an entertaining stage program with popular and unique show formats such as drag bingo, avenue angel contest and lots of live music from rock to classical music and hits to musicals there and of course you can look forward to a high-quality range of drinks and food. HEISSA HOLZMARKT

Every Thursday – Sunday this market directly at the Spree opens for food and drinks from 4PM. With all sorts of delicacies from selected market stalls, homemade Holzmarkt mulled wine and a retro carousel from 1961. Of course everything is cozy and warm at the fire barrel. Saturday and Sunday there is a huge program from drag theaters to concerts, movies and art installations; for kids you will find reading in the fairytale hut, an indoor bouncy castle, a join-in circus or the magical spectacle of the baking workshops. SUSTAINABLE CHRISMAS MARKET

For over 20 years, this Christmas market near Hackesche Höfe has offered visitors a selection of organic, sustainable and fairly produced goods. Classic German as well as vegan specialities from all over the world will make sure you don’t have to stroll hungry and thirsty over this picturesque market. It offers Berlin’s young creative minds a platform to present and sell their hand crafted products. There are no kitschy plastic Santa Clauses here, instead potters, blacksmiths and woodcarvers selling their handicrafts. Visitors can warm their spirits at the taverns with hot mead, mulled wine, mulled beer or a Feuerzangenbowle (A flaming punch drink) and spoil their palate with plenty of hearty and sweet dishes. There is also entertainment with historical music, jugglers, acrobats and fire shows. The hand-operated wooden carousel and wooden Ferris wheel are a particularly beautiful and unique experience for children. Small and large knights and princesses can prove their skills with archery and crossbow shooting. WEIHNACHTSRODEO

A design focused Christmas market for original and nonconventional gift ideas in a balanced mix of festive atmosphere and urban life attitude.
